Baby Shower Gift Order

A friend of mine called me up one Wednesday afternoon, asked if I had any available baby items for her to purchase for a shower that she had forgotten about (she’s pregnant too, so we all understand how that can happen!). Unfortunately I usually just do custom orders on baby gifts, so instead, she dropped off some yarn 🙂 Here’s what I had for her by that Saturday.

Once again, a huge shout out is deserved for the wonderful www.thegreendragonfly.wordpress.com who offered the adorable pattern for the little bunny just in time to use some of the leftover yarn to add a special little friend to the gift 🙂 Since it was a baby gift and I didn’t have any eyes like what she uses in her tutorial, I just sewed on some eyes with some thinner black yarn that I had. I think it turned out ok 🙂 (see my previous post for a link to the pattern).

Since this time, I have made a couple more of these bunnies. I forgot to take a picture of the one that I made and brought into my preschool class. We’re using that one to practice listening during our sharing circle. The kids named him “Taco”…or “Chacco” (sometimes it’s hard to tell with 2 year olds!). I definitely see myself making a lot more of these in the future.

Annnnnnnd…a St. Patty’s day inspiration, I made a 2-tone hat in my favorite design of the season.

*Also, once again, thank you to my dear friend at www.beeskneesphotographync.com for the beautiful pictures.

Had to share this wonderful tutorial from the Green Dragonfly. Love it!

The Green Dragonfly

Crochet bunny free patternIf you are a regular follower you will immediately notice that these bunnies are very closely related to some particularly cute owls made recently. You see a distant aunt on their mother’s side fell in love with a completely unsuitable (if you are an owl) rabbit… the rest, so they say, is history. Rabbits, as you well know, breed like, well, rabbits and before we knew it there were not one, but four new members to the family. If you are interested in meeting the owl family please be sure to check out the New Zealand branch here and the original English pattern here – over at Bunny Mummy no less!!!

Right, on with the tutorial.  If you would like to make some bunnies of your own for Easter you will need:

  • Various scraps of yarn and a corresponding hook – I used 8ply and a 4mm hook.
  • 2 x…

Scrap Granny Pillow…Finally!

You know those projects that you start,  put down, forget about, rediscover several months later, continue, put down, forget about (repeat 8, 000x’s)??? No? Really? Well, sadly, I am very familiar with these. So is my mom. Maybe its genetic.
Anyhoo, about a year ago, I looked at the gigantic pile of scrap yarn that the horder in me said, “keep!”, and decided that I would granny square it away. A plan. A truckload of scrap yarn and a plan. That’s how it started.
I got about halfway through the ever-replenishing scrap yarn pile, and decided that I had made enough squares. Recently (about 4 months ago), I discovered those squares and decided that I was going to re-cover an old pillow. Another plan 🙂
I will spare you the rest of the tedious timeline and just show you that I finally finished my pillow today and I love it!
What project have you been putting off? I’d love to see!

National Crochet Month?!?

Hat and scarf 1 wmOkay, so sadly, I had no idea that March was National Crochet Month. But not to worry, I have been crocheting my little heart out over the last few days and have made several of my new fringe infinity scarves–not only for myself, my daughter and my neighbor, but for my etsy shop too!
Yesterday, my wonderfully talented photographer friend and neighbor took me out for a photo shoot…while I don’t usually like to have my picture taken, she makes it so fun and so easy! Here’s a peek at some of the shots (and, more importantly, some of the scarves).
Enjoy! And if you’d like to purchase one of the scarves shown, please visit my etsy shop http://www.etsy.com/shop/joyfulmamadesigns
