Heirloom Baby Blankets

I have always loved the lacy look of baptismal/christening or heirloom blankets. My grandmother used to make blankets like this but I had never attempted one before.
I recently purchased a Leisure Arts crochet pattern book of “Keepsake Baby Afghans”. The designs are by Kay Meadows and they are beautiful!
Here is a picture of my first completed blanket from this book.

I will admit that I made a couple of mistakes in the edging, but now that I know better, I think it will be much easier next time.
Do any of you have a favorite keepsake Afghan pattern?

Baby Blanket Orders

Aqua and Yellow Baby Blanket 2Baby Boy blue blanket 1 2013

I went back to teaching full time this year and as I suspected, it is a huge lesson in balance! Balancing how much work I bring home, being there for my children and family, and of course making sure I sqeeze in a little time for crochet.

Unfortunately, crochet has suffered the most 😦 Projects that used to take me a week (such as a baby blanket), now might take me a month. It’s very sad, but as I said, balance is a huge lesson in my life this year.

Here are a few baby blanket orders that I’ve managed to finish over the past month or so though 🙂

Latest October Creations

What a busy month!!! I just participated in my first “Fall Festival”/craft fair of the season and had such a blast doing some custom orders. I wanted to share some of the things that I have been up to:

First, and probably my favorite of the season so far is the triceratops hat that I made for one of my friends/regular customers. Let me start off by saying that if you crochet (and have been doing it for 30+ years like I recently realized that I have…boy that ages me!), you can pretty much figure out most of the patterns that you see out there. HOWEVER, I am a real believer in giving credit where credit is due and in supporting other crochet creators…sooooo, when I saw this pattern, I just had to purchase it. Micah Makes might be one of my new favorites (ranked with my old go-to’s: Royal Sisters and Holland Designs). If you are a crochet enthusiast, please go check out this pattern–and some other equally amazing ones–at www.micahmakes.com.

Now on to my picture share…
